3 Ingredient Chili (#2 Chili Post of 5,570)

3 ingredient road chili

You’re low on time, tools and facilities.

You want chili.

What will you do? WHAT WILL YOU DO???

Recently I was on an 8 day business trip. I was staying in one of those business traveler hotels with a very small kitchen and even smaller array of kitchen tools.

Regular readers already see my predicament. Eight days without some good homemade chili?? A hundred years ago conditions better than that caused people to come to America… “bring us your tired, weak, chili-less…”

What would I do? Walk 100 miles to the nearest Cabela’s, buy a dutch oven, pick up ingredients at the grocery store, start a camp fire in the hotel parking lot and get to work?

No. That would take at least 90 minutes and I wanted chili now.

Of course, I’m not the first Old School Man to face this predicament…

Old School Rules 3 Ingredient Road Chili
a.k.a. OSR Emergency Manna

2 lbs of lean ground beef

I package of Carrol Shelby’s Chili Kit

2 can of diced tomatoes with green chillies

a bottle of beer

(Yeah, I know Math Man, that’s four ingredients. But I already had a bottle of beer with me so it doesn’t count.)

1. Brown beef.

2. Add tomatoes.

3. Add what’s left of the beer.

4. Add Carrol Shelby’s Chili Kit (omitting masa flour) and stir over low heat.

Now we got something. Eat a bowl. Put the rest in the fridge for the next day and enjoy the heightened sense of power one receives from chili consumption.

Keep it Old School, my friend

The Old Man, Chris Dixon
