Have A Grizzled Christmas!

Posted by on December 7, 2012

Everything about Christmas isn’t sweetness and light. There’s an Old School grizzled nature to it, too. From a man going Roddy Piper on a heretic to men on the battlefield, here are two of my favorite grizzled Christmas stories.

“I came here to eat candy canes and slap heretics and right now I’m all out of candy canes”

"I will smack your heretic behind this many times."

Santa, or rather the real life figure of Saint Nicholas, slapped a man upside his head for spouting heresy. Not that I want to encourage any slapping, but the real life Saint Nick was a far cry from the today’s Santa that frequently replaces or gets in the way of Christ. Saint Nick was Old School.

The Christmas Truce

In 1914 on the front lines of World War I the battle stopped and enemy soldiers came together for Christmas celebration. It’s the kind of thing that when you read it makes you want to check and if you se it in a movie would make you roll your eyes thinking, “Yeah, right.” But it’s true and it happened.
